Mama’s Delftware, I

charcoal & acrylic on canvas

36” x 36”

2022

“Mama’s Delftware, I” was a challenge from the start. The great amount of detail in each of the individual decorative ceramic plates, the swirling Victorian wallpaper, suffice it to say, I was a bit overzealous.

But I simplified everything into basic shapes and assigned specific colors, making bigger projects such as this manageable. Essentially, it’s just hifalutin, homemade paint-by-numbers, but the end result is a rhapsody in blue and white.

“Mama’s Delftware, I” is paired with Milepost 12: The Glory of Love, three stories tied together by a common theme, the treasure of our treasures. It is immediately followed by a short video (available below) detailing the many steps involved in its creation.
